We recently sponsored a VBS workshop in San Diego at a Children's Pastors Conference. The workshop was bout taking VBS outside the walls of our churches and into the community.
The presenter asked an interesting question to all of the children's pastors in attendance. He asked, How many of you were saved at VBS? Out of everyone there, only one person raised her hand. This person went on to explain that the pastor of a local church went door to door in her neighborhood inviting kids to come. She was unchurched, but because this pastor came to her house and invited her, she went. That week she met Jesus and surrendered her life to Him. Now she's a children's pastor!
So here's my point. If VBS is going to be evangelistic, we need to reach those outside of the church. We need to either actively bring kids to us or we need to bring our VBS to them. Remember, the Bible says to "go and tell" not "come and listen". In other words...you gotta move! Enjoy this song all about it:

I LOVE "You Gotta Move!" It's going to be our wake up song from now on! My daughter (who's 8) just helped me make sets of Resurrection eggs, and told me so eloquently how "important this [Christ's message] is, we have to get it to everybody!" You and the other guys have been such a help to her growth in Christ, and it's so awesome to watch it continue to spread! YOU GOTTA MOVE!!!! :o)
